What to Do When You Are Dead and More: Our Designs Explained

· Style & Merch

Every Armor for Sleep design in our shop points back to a record, a moment or a piece of the band's art. Here is what you are looking at.

Why is there a man floating on so many designs?

He comes from the cover of What to Do When You Are Dead (2005): a man in a suit hovering above a row of suburban houses under a green-tinted sky. The album follows its narrator into the afterlife, so the image fits.

  • What to Do When You Are Dead: the full cover image in a white frame, with the band name on top.
  • Suit Guy: the same figure in teal, with ARMOR across his middle.
  • 2005 Afterlife Athletic Dept.: a varsity-style crest for the album's year.

What about Dream to Make Believe?

The debut from 2003 gets the Dream to Make Believe Wings design: a bold ARMOR on the front and a pair of feathered wings over the album title on the back.

What does the Farewell 2012 design mean?

After the band split in 2009, they played New Jersey's Bamboozle Festival in 2012 to say goodbye properly. Farewell 2012 remembers that night with white wings and the year. The goodbye didn't last: the band reunited in 2020.

Which designs are just for fun?

  • I Heart Nothing: a deadpan slogan with a big red heart.
  • Est. 2001 New Jersey: a hometown crest for the band from Teaneck.
  • Phonograph: flowers pouring out of an old record horn.
  • Red Stamp: a loud collage with ARMOR slammed across the corner.

Which ones are the most low-key?

Wide Armor, Armor Repeated and the gold wordmark on the front of The Light We Found keep things simple.
